CT Post: State's arrests, murders decline in 2013

In cities across Fairfield County, law enforcement officials have told the public in recent weeks that their cities are safer, with fewer people committing serious offenses and the sight of police tape strung up around crime scenes becoming increasingly rare.

But the improving statistics on crime in Bridgeport, Fairfield and Stamford aren't just an important boost for those communities. They're also a part of recently released statewide figures that show Connecticut is bucking national trends at a time when other states struggles with swelling prison populations and deadly urban violence.
