"The pandemic has exacerbated domestic violence and left victims facing increasingly complex challenges due to ongoing financial stressors.

Meghan Scanlon, President & CEO of the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV), today released the following statement regarding two elements of Governor Lamont’s announcements relating to gun safety measures: 1) that he would propose new legislation automatically disqualifying anyone who has been convicted of a family violence crime from holding a state gun permit, and 2) that his proposed budget will include $18 million to replace lost federal funding from the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) and to provide other domestic violence services.

A letter signed by seven victim service organizations to Governor Lamont urged his support for victims of crime by offsetting a temporary but significant loss of funding to crime victims in Connecticut.

The Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV) is deeply saddened to learn that a woman in Ansonia was the victim of an intimate partner homicide. This marks the 9th known intimate partner homicide in Connecticut this year.

We are deeply saddened to learn of this week's murder/suicide in West Haven. This marks Connecticut's 8th intimate partner homicide this year. The West Haven Police Department reports that the couple had recently ended a long-term dating relationship prior to the homicide of the female victim.
